Here’s an undeveloped thought I’ll want to think more about.

What if the reason John was expected to be the righteous man who would break the first seal has something to do with him being the expected recipient of the amulet Sam ended up giving to Dean?

It might make room again for my favorite speculation from the summer of 2008.  The theory livejournalist zazreil came up with had the amulet playing a part in Dean’s rescue from Hell. You know. Since I’ve convinced myself some part of Dean is still in Hell and in need of rescue.
