I’m killing time again flipping through (oxoniensis) screencaps before the new episode airs. I noticed this awhile back and have been meaning to do something with it, but haven’t been able to come up with even a speculation about it, so all I’m going to do is point out what I see.

Ruby’s S3 necklace, appeared with her in 3.01 Magnificent Seven.

It’s there throughout 3.09 Malleus Maleficarum and 3.12 Jus in Bello. It’s also there in 3.16 No Rest for the Wicked.

In S4, Ruby returns with a different necklace that she wears throughout the season.

So Ruby got a new necklace. So what? Well, we’ve seen a very similar necklace before…. back in season three…

It was worn by Tammy the demon in the suburban witch coven of 3.09 Malleus Maleficarum.

OK, I feel better for tracking down and posting those shots. It would be nice if I could think there was for sure a show reason for Ruby’s necklaces. I understand on some level the change for Ruby as an indicator of the shift in her between seasons three and four. Her personality changed quite remarkably in her softer and more supportive tone toward Sam. I’ve speculated (wildly!) before that Anna was in some way a manifestation of the sacrifice and loving bond between Sam and Dean when Dean returned from hell and that Ruby was born out of the need and guilt that drove Dean to make the deal in the first place. If there’s anything to that, could demon Ruby have been infused with some of that positive energy surrounding Dean’s resurrection?  I still have ZERO clue about what – if anything – Tammy could possibly have had to do with it though.
