So, How Awesome is TCM?

Posted by Primogeniture on November 8th, 2008

Pretty much the most awesome channel on television right?

I started paying attention to ‘Turner Classic Movies’ in August, before I wasn’t really sure I got it, and since then it has pretty much taken over my movie viewings. Netflix in particular has been disseminated. In just a few days over three months I’ve seen 17 movies off the channel. I’ve probably lost close to 10 others before I got to view them when my DVR was purged last month. And I’ve got about half a dozen saved right now just waiting to be looked at. In comparison, I’ve seen 5 movies from Netflix over the same time period and 2 in movie theaters.

Get Carter
A Dog’s Life
The Circus
The Kid
City Lights
Modern Times
12 Angry Men
In the Heat of the Night
Soylent Green
On the Waterfront
Rear Window
High Noon
Bonnie and Clyde
A Night at the Opera
The Body Snatcher
Roman Holiday
All the President’s Men

tcm is always the first thing I check when surfing the channels. Well, sometimes the second, after seeing what’s on the HD channels. I’d love tcm-hd..

People get TCM in HD? I’m insanely jealous.

It is by far the best station on television, no competition. You will absolutely lose your mind when February roles around – Oscar time on TCM.

I can’t believe you didn’t tell me you’d seen City Lights. That’s like my favorite movie! (wait…or did you tell me?)

Tons of great Chaplin you saw actually. Got a favorite? Bonnie and Clyde and In The Heat of the Night are probably my other faves from your list.

Comments!! Sorry guys, I honestly didn’t think anyone would be checking yet. :)

I don’t think we’ve discussed City Lights Amber. That’s just an awesome film, all around. Certainly my favorite Chaplin so far and probably the best final scene to a movie…ever. I’d heard the hype about it but didn’t know what happened, it certainly lived up to it. I’m not sure if City Lights is his funniest, but it makes up for that with the heart it displays.

I rewatched The Circus tonight actually, a really funny movie.

I really liked both ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ and ‘In the Heat of the Night.’ Poiter’s performance just transfixed me. I was blown away. I’d also say ’12 Angry Men’, ‘Rear Window’, ‘High Noon’, and ‘Roman Holiday’ are among the best movies I’ve ever seen. All the others, besides ‘Soylent Green’ aren’t too shabby either.

I hadn’t even thought about February on TCM…*head explodes*
