Swan Lake the Band! February 16, 2007

Swan Lake is yet another band featuring Super Krug. Call it a superband with Destroyer’s Dan Bejar and Carey Mercer from Frog Eyes. Well if you know of the Krug man already, what I’ve just told you was completely useless. I just wanted an excuse to have the above pretty picture in my blog. And share my favourite Swan Lake tracks off their album Beast Moans.
and Wolf Parade live in Montreal….
It’s a Curse (Live)
and from the Sunset Rubdown show in Ottawa
Note: These tracks have been made available due to irrational fan worship. Although if you would like me to remove these files please let me know in the comment box.

Still in the chase for all things Sunset Rubdown. Now if I’d been a teeny bopping popstar obsessed teenager, I would be far more adept and efficient at this. I was unfortunately bestowed a level headed pubescent head, so my inexperience at being an obsessive fan has lead me to a much delayed discovery of the Wolf Parade/Sunset Rubdown/ Whatever side projects the members have fansite forums.
The site itself is a good resource, although I did manage to convince the moderator that I was going to stalk Spencer Krug in all of 5 minutes there. But he did trust me with the Krug man’s alleged email address, which I will NOT be posting because I am NOT a stalker. Nor will I conspire with other stalkers. Unless I like you. We’ll see. Oh and put your bets in on whether I will get a reply. Autoreply bots also count.
So off the email went. I don’t remember what exactly was in it, but I’m sure the words “please”, “Australia” and “can’t live” were in there somewhere.
Before I go off on a tangent my main purpose was to share a few rare early Sunset Rubdown tracks, but when it was just Spencer Krug in the band. I do miss the energetic guitar accompaniments of the full band, but the solos are definitely worth a listen. Enjoy.
Swimming (Instrumental) – Still packs the energy of the album version
I’ll Believe in Anything (Acoustic) - Yes so you’ve heard the Wolf Parade version, highlights Krug’s piano work again. Beautiful
More tracks available from SnakesGotABlog. I highly recommend Snakes Got A Leg (acoustic), Give Up Your Ghost and We Got Broken Eyes.Do let me know if you’d like more tracks, so I can upload them later.
And a bonus
Spencer Krug Radio 3 Interview – Excellent interview on Radio CBC. Funny how someone so soft spoken can release all the wailing on record
Another bonus, also thanks to the guys at SnakesGotABlog, the cheesiest photo of Spencer Krug, available to the public yet.

Oy Vey. You can stop laughing now.

Site Pimping: Daytrotter January 25, 2007
Posted by fleaonaleash in : Uncategorized , 2commentsContinuing my obsession with substituting the word “recommend” for “pimp”, I thought I’d share an excellent site I found recently Daytrotter.
The most exciting feature of the site for me is the availability of exclusive and free music recorded at the Daytrotter Sessions
Daytrotter Sessions
These fine people as they’re traveling through America’s heartland take two hours out of their travels between shows to stop in for a Daytrotter Session at Futureappletree Studio One in downtown Rock Island, Ill. The name of the city is not ironic. They use borrowed instruments, play with their touring mates, utilize a often unkempt toilet, eat some food and then cram back into their vans for the last half of the drive. What they leave behind is a pile of ashes, sometimes a forgotten stocking hat and four absolutely collectible songs that often impart on whomever listens to them the true intensity that these musicians put into their art, sometimes with more clarity than they do when they have months to tinker with overdubs and experiments. These songs are them as they are on that particular day, on that particular tour dirty and alive. We want you to make this your new home as it is ours. We promise that you will love it here.
Personally, I was most excited about the live and unreleased on the albums Sunset Rubdown recordings. Also got myself a few tunes from Of Montreal here. Hope you enjoy the site, and swap some music recommendations with me here.
Crud Campaign January 20, 2007

Alright you Winchester Skanks, this is blog war. I begin my campaign!
Spencer Krug’s other Montreal-based band Sunset Rubdown (live)
I’m not very good at describing music, but it’s a great mix of the piano, synthesizers, guitars, tight percussion and god knows what other funny instruments plus Krug’s unique warbly vocals. If you’re open to a little indie (and no indie is not always a dirty word) give Sunset Rubdown a listen. A little more soulful than Wolf Parade. MP3s on request.

Salad Madness January 17, 2007
Posted by fleaonaleash in : Fine Cuisine , 9commentsMango, Mint and Macadamia Salad
serves 4 because I’m now official salad maker at the weekly barbecue
Approximately 20 mint leaves
1 cucumber
1 carrot
Spinach leaves
1/4 large red onion
1 small to medium sized mango
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/4? lemon
Handful macadamia nuts
Thinly slice cucumber, carrot and onion. Cut mango into this strips. Toss together with mint leaves, spinach? and macadamias. Squeeze lemon over mixture and drizzle olive oil. Toss like a pro. Voila!
Note: Will be edited with photo the next time I make it. My camera batteries were exhausted from? my last jaunt i.e. I accidentally left the thing on all night. Stupid camera.
